FAQ - Entity Builder
What are Ability Scores?
Ability scores represent your character's physical, mental, or spiritual attributes. Here's what you need to know about them in City of Brass.
- Ability scores are optional.
- Both the Score and the Modifier must be whole numbers.
- What you put in Dice determines what is rolled when you use your Sheet to roll an ability check.
- The value of Modifier is added to your roll when you use the Sheet to make an ability check.
- Ability Scores are integrated with other elements of your character (more on this below).
Special Note: If you have a Defense named CMD, and an Ability Score named Strength or Dexterity, the Modifier for both of these abilities will automatically be added to your CMD Calculated Bonus.
Display
Ability Scores are typically displayed using a three letter abbreviation (Strength becomes STR, Logic becomes LOG, etc.). Both the Score and associated Dice or Modifier are displayed.
- Ability scores are rendered in light gray on the Character Summary.
Modifier or Dice?
City of Brass determines whether to display the value of Dice or Modifier following a simple rule:
if Dice = (anything other than) 1d20 then Dice displays on the Character Sheet
if Dice = 1d20 then Modifier displays on the Character Sheet
Character Integration
For ease of use, Ability Scores have been setup for simple integration in the following ways:
- A Movement can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be added to the Base score in the Calculated Bonus field.
- A Caster Level can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be added to the Calculated Save DC.
- An Attack can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be applied to the associated roll.
- A Skill can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be applied to the associated skill roll.
- A Defense can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be added to the Base score in the Calculated Bonus field.
- A Saving Throw can be associated with an Ability Score, causing the Modifier to be added to the Base score in the Calculated Bonus field.
