Evershield and Everspear
- Parent: Religion
Beyond the cultural animism that often directs activity, education, and reflection among the minotaurs of Thule, the spiritual entities named the Everspear and Evershield have evolved into a potent force of faith for the many tribes and clans of the nation.
Drawn from the dual titles of leadership among the minotaurs, written and oral histories highlight many who have held the title of Herdspear or Herdshield. Some are ensconced in antiquity by their accomplishments, profound wisdom, and even through their acts committed in outrage or remembered in infamy. Among the minotaurs, it was the potency of the memory, and the impact upon the society going forward, that aided in a type of canonization of past leaders.
Often, a renowned Herdshield or Herdspear would find themselves elevated to the Evershield or Everspear, a position of exultation that combined reverence for the creature with their influence on the minotaurs. Names were removed, and the defining characteristics of the individuals were lost, weaknesses of mortality absolved and replaced in the immortal realm of the people’s faith. Some would be named as such by consensus, and some would be named by one in an oath or curse, eventually adopted in kind by others.
The strength of faith blossomed into godhood, though when that exactly happened is lost to the dusts of the past. It is known that the clerical faithful of the minotaurs are known to pray to the Everspear and Evershield for guidance, forgiveness, and power. Like most faiths in the World Primordant, they represent a duality, different sides of the same coin, for the benefit and harm as the followers, their gods, and the fates deem fit to deliver.
